The NCAA fired back quickly at Pennsylvania's new law aimed at keeping Penn State's fine money inside the state, filing a lawsuit today against Governor Tom Corbett and other state officials saying that they are acting illegally in trying to tamper with the NCAA consent decree.
Adam Taliaferro became the third Penn State Trustee to speak out in support of the Paterno rebuttal to the Freeh report released last weekend, joining his colleagues Alvin Clemens and Ryan McCombie in their optimism towards the report.
Last night, alumni-elected trustee Ryan McCombie became the second board member to issue a public statement in support of the Paterno Report.
About four months after negotiations began, many of the young men who were abused (or claim to have been abused) by Jerry Sandusky have submitted settlement offers to Penn State, according to the attorney who was hired to handle the discussions.
What we have now are two different versions of the same story. Both are based on the same facts, yet both draw very different conclusions about Paterno’s role in the scandal. It’s quite possible that the truth is somewhere between the Paterno and Freeh reports, but we’ll never actually find out because we have yet to read a report that doesn’t make broad assertions based on circumstantial evidence. It’s not exactly fair for the Penn State faithful to completely dismiss the Freeh report for editorializing on facts while embracing the Paterno report that used the same facts to show that Paterno didn’t participate in a cover up.
The highly anticipated interview with Sue Paterno and Katie Couric aired this afternoon with Paterno defending her late husband. During one segment about Jerry Sandusky, she asked Couric "If the experts don't know, how can we know?"
