Like many of us, Marlin Groce didn't take Bill O'Brien's decision to leave for the Houston Texans very well. So Marlin enlisted the help of one of his friends, named "The Funkster," to cut a C.M. Punk-esque WWE promo and challenge Bill O'Brien to a no-holds barred steel cage match before he leaves Happy Valley for good.
Throughout the last 24-hours, we've heard from a lot of people about the Bill O'Brien situation. But we haven't heard from Penn State yet (or O'Brien for that matter). That will change tomorrow at 11 a.m., as Athletic Director Dave Joyner will address the media for the first time in the Beaver Stadium media room.
Within hours of news breaking that Bill O'Brien will leave Penn State for the Houston Texans, one of the members of his coaching staff has also decided to leave the program. Assistant head coach and wide receivers coach Stan Hixon will join O'Brien in Houston, causing two of his commits to publicly reconsider other options.
But in Penn State circles, I suspect there will always be a cloud above Bill O'Brien's good legacy -- a perpetual "yeah, but..." -- and to me, there's a tragedy in that. And you know what? As Bill O'Brien looks out the window of the Texans private jet about to touch down at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, he probably doesn't care.
But unlike his 2013 recruiting class counterpart Adam Breneman -- whose Tweet last night sounded like a commitment -- Hackenberg's father told Audrey Snyder of the Patriot News that he's in wait-and-see mode.
According to a source close to the process, Penn State expects the search to last "a couple of weeks" rather than the drawn out process to hire O'Brien. The source also acknowledged the upcoming Signing Day on February 5 was a date of "importance" but would not comment on any set date for the search to end.
