Alumnus Plans to Walk Across America for THON

Norman Horn, of Phoenixville, Pa., will spend seven months on a 3,100-mile journey this year, with all proceeds donated to THON 2015. He will travel from San Francisco to the Jersey Shore to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer, his goal being to raise $250,000.

Pro-Joe Paterno Billboard Raising Funds to Avoid Removal

One of several pro-Joe Paterno billboards is at risk of removal if enough funds aren't raised to support the initiative. The message on the billboard reads: "You can't cover up 61 years of success with honor" -- a clear reference to Paterno's 61 years spent coaching at Penn State.

Maybe we take our rivalry with Ohio State very seriously, or maybe we mentally check out of a Friday afternoon class to wonder about which quarterback is going to start Saturday or think about getting tailgate supplies. It's exciting, and it's a good way for a lot of us, 110,000 strong, to come together and blow off steam and rally around Penn State. I think it's great that starting October 1, Penn State will conduct a survey to really take the pulse of the real culture here. Regardless of whether there's a problem or not, it's never a bad idea to step back and reevaluate.

Tom Ridge Endorses Bob Jubelirer for Trustee

Former state senator Bob Jubelirer has scored one of the highest-profile endorsements for the Board of Trustees alumni election. Yesterday, Senator Jubelirer shared on his Facebook page that Tom Ridge, who resigned the Pennsylvania governorship in 2011 to become the first Homeland Security Secretary, endorsed him for Trustee. This announcement came after the first day of alumni voting.

Schreyer Honors College May Alter Admission Process

The Schreyer Honors College is considering adding a half-hour interview component next year to the already competitive and intense application process.
