Penn State to Play Longwood In Barclays Center Classic

Slowly but surely, pieces are falling into place regarding Penn State basketball’s 2013-14  schedule, as well as the format for Penn State’s preseason tournament, the Barclays Center Classic.

Today, it was announced that Penn State will play a pre-tournament game against Longwood University on a date that is TBA in Happy Valley. The game will take place prior to Penn State traveling to Brooklyn for their first game of the tournament against St. John’s on November 29. The tournament also features Georgia Tech and the SEC’s Ole Miss. Only Ole Miss, who is led by junior guard and defending SEC scoring champion Marshall Henderson, qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season.

Last season, Longwood went 8-25 in the Big South Conference. Despite having only seven men on their roster, the Lancers do return two of their top three scorers in senior guard Tristan Carey (first on the team with 15.6 ppg) and redshirt junior forward Jeylani Dublin (third with 10.0 ppg). Longwood also features new coach Jayson Gee, who is replacing coach Mike Gillian after ten years of service.
