MSG To Host Penn State vs. Michigan Two-Sport ‘Big Ten Day’

The Penn State hockey team got a chance to play on the big stage last week at Madison Square Garden. In 2016, the team will be joined by Penn State men’s basketball for a double-header “Big Ten Day” event against Michigan.

This comes as part of a deal between the conference and the famous arena, home to the New York Knicks and Rangers in the heart of Manhattan, according to commissioner Jim Delany. Sports Illustrated’s Pete Thamel originally reported the deal.

Michigan and Penn State will take to the hardwood and the ice on Jan. 30, 2016 for the first rendition of Big Ten Day, an event that will also take place in 2017 with unannounced participants. Delany said that Madison Square Garden is “iconic, historic, and very cool.”

As part of the deal between the conference and the venue, the 2018 Big Ten men’s basketball tournament will take place in New York City as well. It’s hard to predict where our program will be at that time, but it’s nice to know that the tourney is just a drive away if Penn State is in contention three seasons from now.
