‘Live Your Truth, Brother’: Penn Staters, NFL Community Share Support For Carl Nassib

Former Penn State football star Carl Nassib made history Monday night by becoming the first active NFL player to come out as gay.

Penn State fans, friends and teammates of Nassib’s, and just about everyone else in between were extremely supportive of the Nittany Lion.

Penn State football head coach James Franklin got the ball rolling and said he’s now more proud of Nassib than he was when he led the nation in sacks.

ESPN NFL analyst Mina Kimes shared her thoughts on SportsCenter and stated that Nassib’s announcement “will help millions of people feel a little more accepted tomorrow.”

Plenty of Penn State fans were quick to get behind the walk-on run-on legend, as well.

Penn State’s Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Sandy Barbour was also there to support the Las Vegas Raider.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell also released a statement Monday night.

“The NFL family is proud of Carl for courageously sharing his truth today,” Goodell wrote. “We share his hope that someday soon statements like this will no longer be newsworthy as we much toward full equality for the LQBTQ+ community.”

Fellow NFL stars, including Nassib’s former Penn State teammate Saquon Barkley, shared their support for the defensive end.

Oh, by the way, Nassib hasn’t just made a name for himself by sacking quarterbacks, don’t forget his financial expertise.
