New Graduate Scholarship Introduced To Honor Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre

On September 12, 2023, Lovisa Arnesson-Cronhamre’s life was cut short when she was struck by a speeding car while running on the sidewalk.

A year later, Lovisa’s parents, Maja Cromhamre and Peter Arnesson Gyld, along with her fiancé, Matthew Hollingham, have established the Be More Lavisa Graduate Student Scholarship in her honor.

The scholarship will provide funding for a graduate student in the Eberly College of Sciences studying physics, with a preference for students studying particle astrophysics. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate student who shared Arnesson-Cronhamre’s passion for physics as well her supportive and determined approach to her work.

Students can apply for the scholarship themselves or nominate someone who they feel is deserving.

Ten members of Arnesson-Cronhamre’s Swedish family, along with Hollingham’s parents from the U.K., traveled to State College for a ceremony celebrating her life and to announce the establishment of the memorial scholarship.

“Losing Lovisa has been devastating but we, as a family, strongly wish to contribute to someone else’s love of physics and to honor Lovisa in a way that will keep her memory alive,” Cronhamre said in a release. “We have chosen to do this at Penn State, where her future dreams were being made possible.”
