USAS’s Week of Action: Cut Russell

United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) has designated this a “Week of Action” in an effort to get Penn State to cancel its contract with Russell Athletic. For a thorough recap of the situation, check out this post.

On Wednesday, USAS will be in the HUB talking to students about Russell Athletic and its closure of the unionized Jerzees de Honduras plant.

On Thursday, USAS will be handing out cookies around lunch time at Webster’s. Come on y’all, cookies, lunch, and Webster’s? Isn’t that a great combo?

On Friday, USAS will be hosting a game of dodgeball on the HUB lawn and having a rally at Old Main.

There are also some other events happening that we will let you know about later in the week.

Penn State and the Process of Life

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of higher education’s death have been an exaggeration. American universities produce more research and relevant knowledge for the world at large than any other institutions I know of. Tuition may be too damn high, but over the long-run, undergraduate degrees are definitely worth the cost. But Penn State could be so much more. It used to be, I think.
