Student Basketball Tickets Go On Sale Tomorrow

Fans of hoops in Happy Valley rejoice! Student tickets for both the men and women’s basketball 2009-2010 seasons go on sale at the HUB-Robeson Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 8th. Check out what Penn State Live says.

Students can purchase Nittany Lion Basketball season tickets for $59, Lady Lion season tickets for $25 or both sets for just $75. Cash or LionCash is preferred. Checks and credit cards will also be accepted. Students who buy the combination season ticket will be entered to win a free 2010 student football season ticket.

You get the feeling that even with the Men’s NIT Championship title, they’re still worried about selling tickets. In addition to the lure of a chance to win the football ticket (really? Just one?), a free t-shirt that comes with package as well as incentives of “discounts at local retailers” and “pre-sale opportunites for roadtrips.” AND they’re giving out cotton candy at the sale tomorrow. If this rate continues, I can’t wait until 2015’s season ticket package comes with a semester’s tuition and a chance to play with 99 puppies in a moon bounce pumped with the smell of warm chocolate chip cookies.

Gorman Abruptly Resigns

Head coach of the men’s soccer program Barry Gorman unexpectedly announced his resignation Monday. He leaves a legacy of 22 years of coaching and three Big Ten titles in his wake. Citing “personal reasons,” he has left the team to a nation-wide search for his successor.

“We expected Gorman to be there,” [rising Senior and Co-Captain Andres] Casais said of next season. “He was a father figure to us.”

Oof, that can’t feel good. The move isn’t completely out of the blue, as Gorman was periodically absent during the past few weeks without notice. But from all accounts, his intention to resign was only revealed yesterday. On the abandonment scale, this registers just slightly above “going to the store for some cigarettes and never coming back.”
