Last year, the Trash to Treasure program raised over $62,680 for the Centre County United Way by selling 63.4 tons of items donated by Penn State students. They’ll do even better this year, with your help.

At the end of each semester, the program collects games, computers, carpets, bedding, clothes, electronics, and more. Each residence hall has a different area, so look around or ask your commons desk. This semester’s collection will begin today (December 8th) and last until December 20th. Items will be on sale February 7th from 9AM to 2PM in the Trash to Treasure Sale Room located in 106 Fischer Hall. There will be an even bigger sale in the spring after the school year is over.

Not only does the Trash to Treasure program benefit numerous (we’re talking over 35) local health and human service organizations through United Way, it is also has an economical and environmentally friendly impact on the Penn State community. The event helps recycle 42% of that move-out waste annually, avoids $4,480 in landfill tip fees and hauling, and saves over $14,000 in labor and equipment costs.
