Phi Mu Alpha to Host Holiday A Cappella Concert

Following the “riots” during the Girl Talk concert, HUB-Robeson Center Officials implemented a new events policy that changed the way that events were held in the HUB. This new policy effectively killed a long-standing and popular tradition at Penn State, the A Cappella sampler. Traditionally hosted by Late Night Penn State, the event allowed Penn State’s numerous A Cappella groups to come together and perform for each other and the Penn State Community. When the University forced new policies requiring security at all HUB events, Late Night announced that they would be unable to continue with the A Cappella Sampler.

Phi Mu Alpha, an all-male music fraternity, has decided to host a new version of the A Cappella Sampler, The 1st Annual Holiday Extravaganza; A Cappella Style. The concert will feature many of the A Cappella groups at Penn State including;

  • The Leading Tones of Sigma Alpha Iota
  • The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha
  • 4 the Glory of Phi Mu Alpha
  • NOTA
  • Savoir Faire
  • The Grace Notes
  • The Pennharmonics
  • Blue in the FACE
  • Havoc Jack

The event will take place in the HUB Auditorium on Wednesday at 8:00 PM. Tickets are $3.00 for students and $4.50 for the general public. This should be a great event for anyone interested in A Cappella music. Heck, it’s a nice study break, too, and who doesn’t need an excuse for a study break?

Full Disclosure: I am a member of Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity, but had no input in the planning of this event.

Three Words: For the Glory

When I sat back one night in January thinking about my time at Penn State, I tried to come up with a single word that would adequately describe my experiences here. As I attempted to determine what that magic word might be, my mind began to grasp the absurdity of that challenge. How could I possibly distill four years of my life, countless friendships, and untold numbers of memories, down to a single word? An impossible task to be sure. So instead, I took the easier road and went with three words: For the Glory.
