Relay For Life Breaks Record!

"Through sleet and snow, Penn State students didn’t stop showing their passion for the cause. Because of that passion, Penn State’s Relay for Life was an incredible success,” said Sponsorship Overall Eric Singer after Saturday’s Relay for Life closing ceremony. Countless laps, 24 hours, an El Nino-esque weekend, and $101,273 later, Penn State’s 2010 Relay for Life did in fact earn the right to be called an "incredible success."

Students to Create Awareness for CentrePeace

You need not worry if you see people in orange jumpsuits outside of the Willard Building on Monday, April 12. They are just students trying to increase awareness for CentrePeace.

CentrePeace is a leader in restorative justice in Centre County that works with the State Correctional Institute at Rockview and the Centre County Correctional Facility. They have birthday and Christmas-card programs, a prayer-mate program and a secondhand goods store.

The issue of restorative justice is more pressing than one might think. According to their campaign's Web site, 95 percent of people in prison are going to get out one day. The restorative justice program aids these people in their transition from prison life back into the community.

Phil Davis–National Champion to World Champion?

UPDATE 2:18 PM: A little late on the bell, but results are here! Phil Davis won by submission at 4:55 in the first round last night. This is a very impressive victory, and it has been speculated that the win will put him in a main card fight for his next Pay Per View appearance.

Phil Davis, former Penn State wrestler and 2008 National Champion, is participating in what many people believe will be his breakout match in the Octagon tomorrow night at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 112.

He has certainly earned his new nickname of "Mr. Wonderful," compiling a perfect 5-0 record, including a 41-second knockout in his first professional fight and an impressive unanimous decision victory over the World Extreme Cagefighting light-heavyweight champion. Insiders say he will be the next big thing in UFC and will make a huge statement this weekend when he takes on Alexander "The Mauler" Gustafsson.

Spanier Mailed A Census – So Should You!

I guess I understand why people don't want to fill out the census: We have enough homework assigned every night --why should we have to complete yet ANOTHER assignment? And we don't even get credit for this one!

Well, we actually kind of do.

Penn State - University Park students make up roughly 75% of the State College population. This basically means that if we students don't mail the census back, then 75% of State College doesn't exist in the Census Bureau's eyes.

How does that affect you personally? Why should you care? Read more after the break.
