Penn State Men’s Soccer Preview

New head coach Bob Warming couldn't have come into a better situation in his first year in Happy Valley. Last year, the Nittany Lions men's soccer team had a 12-8-2 record, good enough to earn them the #7 overall seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.

While they lost to semifinalist Maryland in the second round, the experience gained by the nine starters and 16 lettermen Warming has returning will hopefully light a spark and lead them to greater heights this year and help to make Warming's job a little easier (something even the sixth-winningest active coach in college soccer wouldn't mind).

Students to Use iPads in English Class

For years, universities have been sweetening the deal of attending their institutions by providing students with "free" technology. Students have been bribed with laptops, iPhones, and even iPads. A California university recently began a program which will give journalism students iPads to help write their articles (which I think is a great idea. Does someone want to donate $10,000 to Onward State? Anybody? Bueller?).

Well, the iPad craze has made its way to Happy Valley. See how after the jump.

Penn State Women’s Soccer Preview

The Penn State women's soccer team may have lost seven seniors, but that will not keep them from remaining favorites to win yet another Big Ten title.

The 13th ranked Nittany Lions have won 12 straight titles and have made the NCAA Tournament 15 years in a row. Led by captains Megan Monroig and Emma Thomson, the team will attempt to play attractive, attacking soccer that would mean even more success this year.

"I'm pretty confident we're going to have some good attacking power," coach Erica Walsh said. She added, however, "We need to shore up in the back."

Surprise! Women’s Volleyball Still Number 1

In an announcement sure to surprise no one, Penn State's women's volleyball team has been ranked preseason #1 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The Nittany Lions are looking to win their 4th consecutive national championship and continuing to extend their record-setting 102 match winning streak.

Spamalot Will Follow Quest to PSU

The 2005 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot, is scheduled to bring laughs and non sequiturs to the Eisenhower Auditorium. The musical has the distinction of being “lovingly ripped off from the major motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail.” The show will start at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 28 and 29.

The performance is a part of a Broadway tour that will bring King Arthur and his knights across the country. Inevitably, the Lady of the Lake will steal the show since that particular part will be played by Penn State alum Caroline Bowman, who graduated from the Musical Theatre program. This show will be Bowman’s national tour debut.

More details after the jump.

PSUEvents.com to Syndicate Events Data

It's not always the easiest to find out when stuff is going on at Penn State. While many organizations offer calendars of events, none of them are comprehensive, and you may miss out on a cool concert or exhibit if you're only checking one source.

OnwardState.com and The Lion 90.7fm are partnering to bring you PSUEvents.com. The new service will provide a centralized, open-source events database, free for media outlets serving the Penn State and State College communities. Student groups and other organizations will be able to submit their events on PSUEvents.com, and have them appear on any calendar using the service.
