Penn State to Celebrate 100 Days ’til THON

Wednesday marks the highly-anticipated 100 Days ’til THON. And how do you count down to the greatest dance marathon in the country? By dancing, of course.

If you weren’t one of the 10,000 people invited to the Facebook event, here’s the lowdown on the countdown on Wednesday. Events are scattered around campus from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be centered around the HUB.

Performances include Tapestry, Shades of Blue, Lionettes, Penn State Dance Alliance, Feature Twirler, NOTA, and Whiplash, and THON Idol Finalists. DJ Larry Moore will keep you on your toes, as will the Silent Rave on Old Main Lawn at 4:15 p.m. There will also be the first ever Twitter Scavenger Hunt. The best part? Cake. You can grab some in any of the dining commons during lunchtime.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., students can participate in the THON raffle. Tickets will be sold for $5 at tables in the HUB, outside the student bookstore, and outside the HUB by the Panda Express entrance. Throughout the day, there will be five drawings from the tickets sold, but participants do not need to be around to win. Winners can be called if they miss the drawings. Prizes include old THON merchandise and a one night stay for two at the Gaylord Hotel in Washington, D.C. for the Indiana game.

Playlist for the Silent Rave on Old Main Lawn at 4:15 pm Wednesday:

  • Your Love is My Love by Whitney Houston
  • When Love Takes Over by Kelly Rowland
  • Waving Flag by K’naan
  • I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston

Get those songs or be left out. After the rave, you can have your picture taken, where a mysterious “twist” will await you. Get your dancin’ shoes on!

Celebrate 100 Years of Social Intercourse

100 years ago, before the time of social media, and before Cosmopolitan magazine, there was the Penn State Cosmopolitan Club. Today, students can partake in International Education Week from Nov. 15-19 to bolster up those same feelings from yesteryear. And you don’t even have to pay dues.
