Dollar Dog Night Makes Everyone Happy

Just over two years ago, Onward State writer (now editor at-large) Eli Glazier made the profound statement that “Dollar Dog Night Makes Many Happy.” For those of you who are unaware of this gem thought up by the athletic department and Bryce Jordan Center, Dollar Dog Night is a promotion where you can get a hot dog during a men’s basketball game…. FOR A DOLLAR!

Now, after countless hours of research and polling of you, the Penn State students, we have come to the conclusion that Dollar Dog Night makes EVERYONE happy. As poor college students, we like food for cheap and what is better than a frankfurter for four quarters? Nothing, that’s what.

And you’re in luck! Wednesday night’s game against Iowa is accompanied by the return of Dollar Dog Night. To make this colossal day even more well worth it, here are a few suggestions on what you can do with your economical eating delights:

  • Have a Nathan’s-like Hot Dog eating contest during television timeouts and the loser has to buy the winner hot dogs for the rest of the season.
  • Make a life-size model of Andrew Jones. That’s nearly seven feet of hot dogs, but that’s the great thing about dogs for a buck.
  • Have Onward State editors Caity Rogowski and myself autograph your hot dog for you. We’ll be in the student section for the whole game!
