A Guide to Surviving Syllabus Week

Here are some tips and tricks to surviving a week entirely dedicated to drinking and reading a piece of paper that already can be found on Angel.

Penn State UPUA Passes Legislation to Join PASS

At a December 19 meeting in Philadelphia, the student governments at Penn State, Pitt, Temple, and Lincoln universities agreed to form a unified Pennsylvania Association of State-Related Students (PASS).

The measure is a joint resolution between the four universities, who are still currently on winter break. Once fully formed, PASS will be a unified student voice for Pennsylvania's largest public universities, especially with regard to tuition. It will be a much stronger force and presence in Harrisburg. UPUA President Christian Ragland said that events such as a joint pep rally were already planned.

Penn State is the first of the universities to formally join the organization, having passed legislation to that effect last night with a vote of 38-0-2.

Introducing Onward State Mobile

Well, this one's been kicking around in my head for the past couple of months. And today, I'm very excited to announce Onward State Mobile, a mobile-optimized version of the website. Onward State Mobile brings the same Onward State look and feel to your phone to give you an awesome experience on the go. Head on past the break to find out some of the features included in Onward State Mobile.

Students Plan Annual Snowball Showdown

In an attempt to recreate last year's rather epic Pollock vs. East snowball fight, a Facebook event has been created proposing another battle Thursday night. There don't seem to be set teams yet, though proposals for on/off-campus and under/upperclassmen are being discussed.

If improvised alpine warfare is your thing, you might want to head down to Pollock around 8:30. On the other hand, if you don't want to be pelted by overzealous combatants, you might want to steer clear of the area.

If you're participating, remember that this is supposed to be a fun event, so be smart about what you're throwing; no one likes getting hit by an iceball.

The Natty Nittany: Back in Style

After a short hiatus, the Natty Nittany is back and looking for some well dressed Penn Staters!

This week, amongst a sea of plain UGGs and boring North Face jackets, it is nice to see someone bring a little color into this cold State College weather. I spotted Wan on her way up Shortlidge and immediately noticed her adorable handbag and earmuffs. If you want to keep your head warm and look cute at the same time, hoodies are NOT the way to go. A nice pair of earmuffs are what you should be looking for and these gray fluffy ones to the trick. I could do without the pattern in the scarf, but the bag really makes this outfit. In general, I love this outfit and I hope you will too.

I hope to see you look'n good around campus. Stay pretty!

A Moment With Your New Community Manager

Hello there. My name's Evan. I co-founded Onward State, along with Davis and Eli, back in November 2008. I've been a writer, an editor, and even an amateur sketch artist over the past two years.

But, as Kanye West once said, "I'm living in the future so the present is my past," so let's move on.

I've now taken over the reins as the Community Manager for Onward State, which will be a different position than it has been in the past. Essentially, I will be acting as a liaison between the Onward State staff and you, our glorious readers and commenters. Since this position is new, it will surely develop and evolve as the semester progresses.

For now, though, let's focus on one of the things that makes Onward State really neat--great online conversations. As some of our more regular readers may already know, our comments section can be both entertaining and engaging (ideally both at the same time). To start off the new semester, I have some guidelines to follow in order to keep our comments great and make them even better over time. Check them out after the jump.
