Talor Battle Goes Undrafted
The leading scorer in Penn State basketball history will have to wait a little longer to find out what’s next for his career on the hardwood.
Battle’s name was not called during last night’s NBA Draft, which was expected according to most mock drafts. As for what’s next, Battle will probably sign somewhere as a rookie free agent and will be given the chance to compete for a spot in training camp. If that doesn’t work out, he will most likely look overseas along with fellow graduating senior Jeff Brooks.
Plenty of teams showed interest in Battle during the pre-draft scouting process, and for good reason. What may help Battle in his NBA quest is the success of 6′ guard J.J. Barea during the Dallas Mavericks’ run to the NBA title. Teams may be more willing to take a chance on a small guard as a result, especially one with Battle’s scoring ability.
On a more local scale, Battle reminds me of Lou Williams, the sixth man and gunner extraordinaire for the Philadelphia 76ers. The 6’1″ Williams comes off the bench for the Sixers to provide instant offense and will take just about any shot given to him. Sound familiar?
