THON 101: Communications

Communications serves as the “voice” of THON to the Penn State community, which includes students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

Communications Overall (and Onward State’s own) Charlotte Kohl leads COMM’s 24 Captains and 180 Committee members. Most COMM captains serve as liaisons to organizations and independent dancer couples involved in THON to help them out with fundraising and any other problems throughout the year.

During THON weekend, COMM is responsible for staffing information booths located at each of the BJC gates. Their shirts say “ASK ME” on the back, so be sure to approach them with any questions you may have over THON weekend. COMM also gives tours to different groups during THON weekend and plans events throughout the weekend such as All U Hour & Greek Hour. In addition, COMM staffs the Lost and Founds, which are located at Gate B & on the event level, and runs the captain sleep shifts, where they make sure captains are asleep and awake at the proper times.
