10 Questions With Adam Breneman

Coach Bill O’Brien has made quite a few splashes since his hire in January, but none bigger than signing 5 star tight end Adam Breneman out of Cedar Cliff High School (Camp Hill, PA). Breneman hauled in 72 passes for 1,120 yards with 12 touchdowns during his junior season, while earning an invitation to the Under-Armour All American game and the designation of #1 tight end recruit in the country. I was able to sit down with Adam earlier this week for a 10-questions feature:

Onward State: Why did you choose Penn State?

Adam Breneman: Penn State was the best fit for me academically, athletically, and socially. The business school is one of the best in the country. Coach O’Brien knows how to use and develop tight ends, and I love being around the players and coaches. I couldn’t go wrong with the choice.

OS: How is your relationship with other recruits in your class?

AB: I’ve gotten to know [Christian] Hackenberg really well. We’re already pretty much best friends, and that’s a great relationship to have. We’re going to be roommates at PSU. I also have good relationships with all the other recruits like [Garrett] Sickels, [Brendan] Mahon, [Alex] Anzalone, [Ryan] Switzer, and [Dorian] Johnson.

OS: Are there any skills that you need to work on before you get up to PSU?

AB: I think I have everything together from an athletic and receiving standpoint. Obviously you can always improve, but I’m really solid in that category. I need to put on more weight and become a better blocker.

OS: How much did Coach O’Brien’s hire influence your decision?

AB: I don’t think I would be going to PSU if it wasn’t for Coach O’Brien. I’ve developed a great relationship with him and his experience with tight ends and in the NFL was what really put Penn State over the top.

OS: What’s your favorite football memory so far?

AB: Having 12 catches for 200 yards and 4 TDs in the first half of our playoff game last year against Exeter.

OS: How much did the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal weigh into your decision?

AB: It did at the beginning, but once Coach O’Brien was hired it really became a good thing. I’m going to have the chance to help with the healing process at Penn State, and I’m really excited about that.

OS: You had surgery on both shoulders during the offseason. How’s the healing process going?

AB: They feel great. I’m almost at 100% now. I’ll be better than ever when the summer comes and practice starts.

OS: Adam, you and I went to the same high school and have known each other for years. What is your favorite memory between the two of us?

AB: Seeing you on the field before the Alabama game. It had been a while since I saw your gorgeous face, so that was nice.

OS: If you could be a dinosaur, what kind of dinosaur would you be and why?

AB: I’d be the allosausus. It’s the #1 predatory dinosaur.

OS: Who is in your final 4, and who wins it all?

AB: UNC, MSU, OSU, and Kentucky with UNC winning it all!
