Board of Trustees Candidate Profiles: 1-20

With the alumni Board of Trustees campaigns in full swing, Onward State will be releasing short profiles of each candidate over the next week or so. Each profile will include a very brief bio with links to their mission statement, website, Facebook page, and Twitter if available.

Today, we look at candidates 1-20 (in ballot order):

1. Matthew J. Lisk –
Graduated in 1995, with a Bachelor’s in Management Information Systems. Lisk was a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma fraternity. He is also a life member of the PSU Alumni Association, as well as a member of the Nittany Lion Club and President’s Club. He is currently the Executive Director of SAT Product Management in New Providence, NJ. Formerly, he worked as a management consultant at Accenture, where he got the opportunity to work with various Fortune 500 companies to improve their business using multiple methods.

2. Ryan J. McCombie – 

McCombie graduated in 1970, completing the Navy ROTC (NROTC) program. After graduation, he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy as an Ensign. He was selected to attend the Army War College, and after his graduation, he became the commander of SEAL Team Two (the one he served on) for two years. He also served in high-ranking positions with the Defense Intelligence Agency and as the Senior Navy Representative and faculty member at the Army War College. After retiring from the Navy in 1996, he and his family moved to State College, where he became an executive with a financial firm. Currently, he is an independent business consultant. He is on the Board of Directors for the Centre County United Way. McCombie was also involved with Second Mile, as a mentor for the Friend’s Fitness program. He is currently the chair of the military scholarship committee for Penn State World Campus, as well as a member of the Board of Advisors for Outreach Development.

3. Jes James Sellers –
Jes James Sellers graduated from Penn State in 1974. He received his master’s degree in 1976. While at Penn State, he belonged to the Phi Mu Alpha Symphonia Fraternity, and was one of the RAs in West Halls. He is a lifelong member of the Alumni Association. Currently, he works as an adjunct assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University’s Psychology department. He also is the Director of the CWRU Counseling Services.

4. Thomas J. Sharbaugh –
Sharbaugh graduated from Penn State in 1973 with a B.S. in Economics. While at Penn State, he was a member of Lion’s Paw and Skull and Bones and received the Dean’s Cup from the Smeal School of Business. He later received his J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1976. Currently, he is the Managing Partner of Operations for Morgan Lewis. Sharbaugh has been a member of the External Advisory Board of the Schreyer Honors College for about eight years and a member of the Advisory Committee of the University’s Office of Annual Giving for the past year. In addition, he suggested the idea that came into fruition as the university’s Microfinance Match program.

5. John C. Foster –
Foster graduated from Penn State in 1977 and received graduate degrees from the university in 1983 and 1997. He was formerly the State Director of Career and Technical Education under Pennsylvania Governors Ridge and Rendell. He currently serves as the President and CEO of the National Occupational Competency located in Carlisle PA.

6. Richard Dirk Matson –
Matson graduated in 1977 with a degree in Law Enforcement and Corrections. While attending Penn State Behrend from 1973-1975, Matson was a letterman in wrestling and was also a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Currently, he is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Adelphoi Village located in Ligonier, Pa. He is a member of the Penn State Alumni Association, Nittany Lion Club, and the Penn State Wrestling Club.

7. Craig W. Micklow –
Micklow graduated from Penn State in 1969 with a degree in agriculture. He then received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He is currently a principal for MM Fin & Oper. Consulting in Southlake, Texas, and currently serves as the President of the North Texas Chapter of the Alumni Association.

8. Patricia Marrero –
Marrero graduated in 1988 with degrees in Marketing and Spanish. While at Penn State she became a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She is currently the Senior Vice President of National Sales for VMe TV and is a member of the New York City’s Penn State Alumni Association.

9. Edward A. Paskey II –
Paskey graduated in 1994 with a BA in International Politics and History. He then earned a JD degree from the Dickinson School of Law in ‘97. He is currently a partner at Kagen, MacDonald, & France, P.C. after formerly having served as the First Deputy District Attorney at the York County District Attorney’s Office. Paskey is also the President-Elect of the York County Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.

10. David E. Robbins –
Robbins graduated in 1978 with degrees in both Business Administration and Psychology. While at Penn State, Robbins served as the President of the Association of Residence Hall Students and was a founding member of “Movin’ On”. He then attended Villanova Law School from 1978-1981, where he was an editor of the Villanova Law Review. He founded his law office in 1981, and practices in areas of car accidents, criminal law, DUI/DWI and injury law.

11. Martin R. Davis –
Davis graduated in 1986 with a degree in Real Estate. He is currently the president of Donald E. Davis Agency Inc. in Pottsville, PA, a real estate firm. In April 1997, Marty received a stem cell transplant from Duke University Hospital to cure his cancer. Today, Davis owns and manages several real estate properties.

12. Stephen M. Hladik –
Hladik graduated from Penn State in 1989, having majored in Pre-Law with minors in Business and History. He earned his law degree from the Widener University School of Law in 1992, and is currently a partner at Kerns, Kerns, Pearlstine, Onorato & Hladik, LLP.  He was formerly the Deputy Attorney General in charge of the Harrisburg office of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. In addition, Hladik was a member of the Board of Directors of the Lancaster County Alumni Association and is currently serving his second four-year term on the North Penn School Board.

13. Timothy M. Freeman –
Freeman graduated in ‘90 with a BS in Public Service. During his time at Penn State he was a member of the varsity football team. He then graduated from UC Davis Graduate School of Management in ‘96 with an MBA in Finance and Statistics. He is currently a principal of Elevation LLC, and has formerly been the Head of Equity Derivative Sales at Capstone Global Markets and Managing Director at Merrill Lynch.

14. Amy L. Williams –
Williams graduated from Penn State in 1980 with a degree from the College of Human Development. She currently serves at the Managing Director at SageWorks Rx and on the Board of Directors at Musicopia, a non-profit organization that brings educational music programs to under-served schools. Additionally, she is a strategic consultant at Ameritox.

15. Joseph H. Clapper III –
Clapper received a graduate degree in education from Penn State in 1992. He currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools at the Quaker Valley School District. He is also an adjunct professor of education at Penn State Beaver.

16. Jonathan L. Wesner –
Retired Commander Wesner (U.S. Navy) graduated from Penn State in 1965 with a BS in Zoology. He received a JD in 1972 and a LLM in Taxation in 1985 from the Villanova School of Judge. He is currently a U.S. Judge in the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review after having spent 23 years as a self-employed attorney. He was also an elected member of the Penn State Alumni Council from 1997-2003.

17. Victor S. Provenzano –
Provenzano graduated in 2002 from the Harrisburg campus. He works as an operations supervisor for UPS. Prior to attending Penn State, Provenzano served five years in the United States Coast Guard. He currently resides in Enola, PA.

18. Marta Pepe Forney –
Forney graduated in 2000 from the school of Health and Human Development. During her time at Penn State, she served as a Lion Ambassador and was a pole vaulter for the Lady Lions track team. Currently, she works as a physical therapist at Doylestown Hospital in Doylestown, Pa.

19. Dona M. (Davis) Horst –
Horst graduated in 1981 with a B.S. in Health and Human Development and earned a graduate degree two years later. Horst served as president of Eta Sigma Gamma, a National Health Science Honors Society. She now works as a pharmaceutical sales representative at Ortho Biotech/Johnson & Johnson. She currently lives in Annapolis, MD.

20. J. Michael Murphy –
Murphy graduated in 1980 with a degree in Communications. He is a sales and marketing manager at Alcoa, one of the largest aluminum companies in the world. Murphy was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity and served as its President in 1979-1980. He currently resides in Downingtown, PA.
