Apply to Join Onward State This Summer

Are you interested in joining the fast and exciting world of digital media? Onward State has a limited number of openings for our next editorial cycle.

In less than four years, Onward State has grown to be one of the most relied upon voices in the Penn State community. With a social media following of over 42,000 on Facebook and Twitter, Onward State leads all college news sources in the country in that respect, both digital and print.

We serve the Penn State community every day by publishing content that is  fair, authentic, and sometimes humorous; analysis that is critical and irreverent; and news that is relevant and accurate. And we want you to help us.

We’re looking for a handful of writers, copy editors, photographers, and social media contributors to join our team this summer and into the fall. If you’re an experienced student journalist bored with the status quo, this is your chance to pursue exciting opportunities and develop new skills… but experience is not required! We want people who are excited to be part of the Onward State family, and who are passionate about Penn State and leading the student voice.

If you’re interested and will be living State College this summer, please fill out this application by July 2. If you’re home for the summer, don’t worry. We’ll have another opportunity for students to join in August.

As a new staff member, you will be required to attend one weekly editorial meeting, participate in our online “news room” on Yammer, and contribute posts throughout the summer and fall. And contrary to popular belief, none of this has to be done in your mom’s basement!

If you have any questions about the position, please contact me at [email protected]. Be sure to follow us on Twitter @OnwardState and subscribe to us on Facebook if you haven’t already.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
