Women’s Volleyball Looks to Advance to Final Four

The Penn State Women’s Volleyball team will play in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday and Saturday (if necessary) in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. The top-ranked team in the country looks to tie Stanford with its 6th championship in program history.

Penn State takes on Kentucky tomorrow at 5 p.m. Kentucky is 22-10 on the year and is ranked #16 overall. The Wildcats tied for 4th in the SEC this year but are only one of two SEC teams still left in the tournament after defeating Eastern Kentucky and Ohio State in the first two rounds last weekend.

The Wildcats are led by senior Stephanie Klefot and junior Whitney Billings, who were both named to the first team All-South region last weekend. If you want to hear awful, biased announcers showing graphics about the football sanctions and talking about things that are completely irrelevant to the game, it will be shown on ESPN3.com. If you wish to hear commentary from Penn State’s own announcer Dean DeVore, the game will be streamed online here.

If the Lions defeat Kentucky, they will play the winner of the late match between #10 Minnesota and #9 Purdue in the regional final. Penn State swept both teams during the regular season at home and on the road, although it is worth noting that Penn State’s win at Purdue in November was a tightly contested 3-1 victory. The regional final will be played at 4 p.m. on ESPNU and ESPN3.com.

If the Lions win both games this weekend, they will advance to the Final Four in Louisville, Kentucky on December 20th. The full bracket is available here.
