Confirmed: Football Series with UCF Set for 2013, 2014

(Update 2-6 5:15 p.m.): It’s official! Penn State has confirmed this report.

(Previous) According to Paul Tenorio of the Orlando Sentinel, Penn State and the University of Central Florida will begin a 2-year football series beginning in the 2013 season with the Knights coming to Beaver Stadium on September 14th.

For the Knights, this game would replace a 2013 matchup with Bethune-Cookman, and a 2014 home contest against Jacksonville State when the Nittany Lions make the trip to Florida.

The Virginia Cavaliers had been set to visit Happy Valley on September 14th. The matchup against UCF would logically replace it, but Penn State has yet to confirm the report.

This news makes sense for multiple reasons. Central Florida is set to join the Big East conference and looking to beef up its out of conference schedule coming off a 10-4 season that included a Beef O’Brady’s Bowl victory against Ball State.

Bill O’Brien also has a relationship with UCF head coach George O’Leary when O’Brien worked on his Georgia Tech staff from 1995 through 2001.
