Lady Lions’ Bentley and Greene Drafted to WNBA

Lady Lions senior point guard Alex Bentley and center Nikki Greene were drafted to the WNBA on Monday night in Bristol, Connecticut.

As the 13th overall draft pick, Bentley was selected by the Atlanta Dream. Greene was chosen by the Phoenix Mercury with the 26th overall pick.

When she was chosen, Bentley thanked her father for supporting her and helping to coach her since she started playing basketball at the age of 4. In addition she said, “It’s been a dream of mine to play in the WNBA since I was a young girl.”

Bentley had a stellar career as a Lady Lion and was chosen to the All-Big Ten first team for three straight years. As a senior, she was given the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, chosen for the country’s most outstanding female collegian 5’8” and under who has excelled both on the court and in the classroom. She scored 1,786 points in her career, placing her 8th in Lady Lions history. The Atlanta Dream is  part of the Eastern Conference in the WNBA and was created before the 2008 season.

Greene was named to the All-Big Ten third team and finished her career with 1,132 points and 994 rebounds in addition to 14 double-doubles. She will join No. 1 overall pick Brittney Griner of Baylor in Phoenix.

Bentley was excited to get drafted to a team known for it’s quickness and fast breaks. She noted it as a perfect fit and said, “I’m ready to play.”
