Former Players Join Fight Against the NCAA

More than 325 former Penn State Football players and coaches, spanning six decades, have officially joined the fight against the NCAA.

Todd Blackledge, Kerry Collins, and Paul Posluszny are just some of the hundreds of names expressing their support for the Paterno family lawsuit against the NCAA. The lawsuit, looking to overturn the sanctions against Penn State, states: “Defendants breached their contractual obligations and violated their duties of good faith and fair dealing, intentionally and tortiously interfered with Plaintiffs’ contractual relations, and defamed and commercially disparaged Plaintiffs.” The lawsuit also alleges coercive methods by the NCAA, and attacks the Freeh Report.

Brian Masella took the role of spokesman for the players, and released this statement:

“Joe Paterno and the entire Penn State football program have been used as scapegoats in this horrible tragedy. When the NCAA neglected to conduct their own investigation, and used the flawed Freeh Report as the judge and jury, they further prevented an opportunity to get to the real truth, and in turn, punished a generation of Penn State players, students, and supporters who had nothing whatsoever to do with Jerry Sandusky.”

Former coaches Dick Anderson and Tom Bradley, as well as Penn State’s former NCAA Compliance Director John Bove, have also expressed their support for the lawsuit.

Alex Robinson

Alex Robinson was Onward State's Acting Managing Editor/Resident Old Man. He lived in Harrisburg almost his whole life, but he says he's from California -- where he was born -- because that's more fun. He loves cats and Chinese food, but only separately. He met both Ben Affleck and Kanye West within a half hour, so the three of them are basically best friends.
