Walk for Prevention Scheduled for Sept. 25

The second annual Walk for Prevention, a 1.3 mile trek throughout campus, is slated for Sept. 25 at 6 p.m. Students will meet at the Thomas building to show the commitment the Penn State community has to the children of central Pennsylvania.

All profits will be donated to the non-proft organization Darkness to Light. D2L, with affiliates in 50 states and 15 countries, is dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse. More than 500,000 adults worldwide have completed D2L’s Stewards of Children training, which helps adults prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to signs of child sexual abuse.  For more information, visit the D2L website.

Individual registration is $10, which is also the price to train one adult how to respond to child sexual abuse, according to D2L. All those who register will receive a T-shirt on the day of the walk.

As an added perk, Nadine Gaynor, director of marketing and public relations, said fraternity and sorority members will receive three hours of community service even though the walk will take about 30 minutes.

Those interested can register or donate here and follow the group on Twitter at @PsuWalk.

Last year, about 60 people participated in the walk, raising about $5,000 for the cause.
