Onward State has confirmed with multiple sources that SPA’s annual Homecoming concert will be headlined by Childish Gambino on October 6 at Rec Hall. An announcement is expected later this week.

Childish Gambino is the stage name of actor and stand up comedian Donald Glover, who is known for  playing Troy on the NBC hit show “Community.” Glover was also a writer for the show “30 Rock” and a member of the New York University sketch comedy troupe Derrick Comedy.

As a rapper, Glover is praised for his unique wordplay — one of my favorite lines comes from a freestyle he did with Kendrick Lamar and Danny Brown at Coachella in 2012 where he raps, “Girl why is you lyin’? Girl why you Mufasa?” — and his dark subject matter.

Glover has released four albums since 2008, “Sick Boi,” “Poindexter,” “Culdesac,” and 2011’s critically acclaimed “Camp,” which has sold 160,000 copies in the United States and reached #11 on the Billboard 200 chart. Glover has also released three mixtapes and an EP.

Like last year’s Homecoming concert, there will be a dance competition held before the show, although few other details are known.

The concert is expected to be announced when Nick Offerman comes to Happy Valley on September 6. The time, ticket information, and information on potential opening acts is all unknown, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more information.

For those of you unfamiliar with Glover’s work, here’s his album “Camp,” some clips of him doing standup, and a collection of clips from “Community.”
