Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian to Visit Campus of r/PennStateUniversity

Alexis Ohanian, one of the two co-founders of the popular website reddit, has scheduled a stop at Penn State on February 8, 2014 to promote his new book, “Without Their Permission: How the 21st Centure Will Be Made, Not Managed.”

According to the official website for “Without Their Permission,” Ohanian will use the book to, “share his ideas, tips and even his own doodles about harnessing the power of the web for good, and along the way, he will share his philosophy with young entrepreneurs all over the globe.”

While Ohanian has Penn State — or r/PennStateUniversity, if you’re a frequent redditor — listed on his tour schedule, a stop in Happy Valley is “In Progress.” Ohanian’s tour will span five months, make 100 stops, and visit 65 college campuses.

Ohanian founded the site, which calls itself “the front page of the internet,” in 2005 with fellow University of Virginia graduate Steve Huffman. Since its creation, reddit has become one of the most popular websites on the internet — per Alexa, which ranks sites by the number of page views and unique visitors it has every month, reddit was the 111th most visited website in the world in September 2013.

While reddit is his most popular creation, Ohanian has also created the travel search website hipmunk and breadpig, a “publisher and maker of geeky things.”

Aside from his work with reddit, Ohanian is an activist and a strong supporter of open internet and freedom of information, and is best known for his vocal opposition to two major internet-related pieces of legislation in 2010-11: Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA).
