Penn State Love Stories: Part 10
This week, we’re sharing the stories of three couples, one of whom started dating at 4:44 a.m. when they returned from the Bryce Jordan Center during THON weekend.
I’d like to note that this will be my final Penn State Love Stories post, at least for the foreseeable future. Feel free to check out the 9 previous posts or submit your love story in case of an eventual revival of the series. Thanks for reading, and — to those who have submitted forms — thanks for sharing your stories.
Alyssa and Matthew
He is: Matthew Moore, Class of 2011
She is: Alyssa Farrell Moore, Class of 2009
They first met: Because they were both musical theatre majors. They were cast opposite each other in 2008 in a production called “Bare: a pop opera.”
What happened next: They shared countless dinners at North Dining Halls and tons of nights talking and laughing at Alyssa’s apartment in the Meridian.
Now they’re: Married
And have been together: 5 1/2 years
Their soundbite: “On October 6, 2012, Matthew proposed in Disney World during fireworks and secretly arranged for both of our families to be there to witness the proposal and celebrate with us!”
Jennifer and Anthony
He is: Anthony Palazzolo, Class of 2011
She is: Jennifer Hyland Palazzolo, Class of 2010
They first met: During the first week of their freshman year. They lived on the same floor in Pollock.
What happened next: They became friends through the fall, and on Feb. 18, 2007, at 4:44 a.m. after he came back from THON, Tony asked Jennifer to be his girlfriend.
Now they’re: Married
And have been together: 6 1/2 years
Their soundbite: “On October 20, 2012, after an elaborate scavenger hunt around the Penn State Campus, Tony proposed on the steps of Old Main.”
Sarah and Jeff
He is: Jeff Kuebler, Class of 2012
She is: Sarah Hillanbrand, Class of 2013
They first met: In CAS 100, during her freshman year and his sophomore year. They started hanging out when they had to work on a group speech together. They found out that they had a lot in common, including their obsession with Penn State.
What happened next: They started hanging out and haven’t stopped since — though while they were still in CAS 100 together, he started skipping class during his speech times because he was too nervous to do them in front of her.
Now they’re: Engaged
And have been together: 3 years
Their soundbite: “Homecoming weekend, the day after the Penn State vs. Michigan game on October 13, 2013, we went for a walk on campus. He carved our initials into a tree near the Chambers building and then he asked me to marry him!
