Press Conference Scheduled for Saturday at 4:15 to Announce New Coach

When athletic director Dave Joyner said the coaching search would be over in a matter of days, he meant it — nine days, to be exact.

Penn State announced a press conference for tomorrow at 4:15 in the Beaver Stadium media room with Dave Joyner and Rodney Erickson to make a “special announcement.” It doesn’t take a genius to take a guess as to what that announcement might be.

Soon-to-be-former Vanderbilt coach James Franklin is expected to be the third man up on the podium with Joyner and Erickson tomorrow. If Penn State has announced a press conference time, it likely means that Franklin and the university have reached a contract agreement. That contract is expected to become finalized tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. at a special Board of Trustees compensation meeting.

We’ll have full coverage of the new coach here and on our Twitter feed throughout the rest of the day and tomorrow.

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
