Penn State Opens Time Capsule From 1956

Housing officials opened the time capsule dating back to 1956 and replaced it with one to show future generations a glimpse of the year 2014. Inside the one from 1956 were dozens of items, including sorority hats, magazines, student handbooks, campus guides, newspapers and directories, some of which will soon be on display in Redifer Commons.

Football Home Opener Against Akron Set For Noon Kickoff

James Franklin's Beaver Stadium debut against the Akron Zips will kickoff at 12:00 PM EST. The game will be broadcast regionally on ABC and nationally on ESPN or ESPN2.

Penn State keeps on climbing: The Center For World Universities Rankings pegged it the 46th-best university in the world and 29th-best in the country in its most recent report. It's the third straight year Penn State has seen a boost.

Hackenberg Named to Davey O’Brien Watchlist

Christian Hackenberg is going to have a lot to live up to this season, after being added to his second preseason award watch list for the upcoming year. The sophomore quarterback has been named to the 33-player watch list for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award which goes to the nation's best quarterback. This comes after he was named to the preason watch list for the Maxwell Award which is presented to the nation's college football player of the year.

Penn State fans are quick to notice every little thing that goes on with the program, so when freshman running back Nick Scott tweeted out a photo of a Penn State football helmet with the number 24 on it (Scott's number) fans were all over social media guessing what that might mean. The real reason for the helmet? It's a decoration in Franklin's office.
