Alumni Trustees Call for Meeting To Discuss Settlement, Consent Decree

The nine alumni-elected trustees on Penn State's board lettered board chairman Keith Masser today, calling for a special meeting to discuss the university's stance on settlement discussions in the NCAA v. Pennsylvania lawsuit and the consent decree that agreed to the NCAA's sanctions.

An Irish sports official said that the NCAA "rightly" punished Penn State in the wake of the Sandusky Scandal. Mark Wogenrich of the Morning Call also reported that Peter McKenna, director of Croke Park, the site of Penn State's game in Ireland later this month, also told the Irish Times that the scandal brought hesitation about bringing Penn State, and that it was "something that we thought long and hard about". The story, however, mainly says that Croke Park praises the University and its ability to change since the scandal.

Penn State announced its lineup for the 2014-15 Forum Speaker Series, and some names on it should draw significant interest. Among them: NFL Hall of Fame linebacker and concussion awareness advocate Harry Carson on being a "Captain for Life," former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik on the need for criminal justice reform, and PBS President Paula Kerger on the future of educational media.

Former Onward State writer and Penn State alum Steven James Boyle, who you may know as Max the Moraler, posted an unassuming video of him reading his poem about coping with unrequited love in August. He never expected what would come next -- "I Hit Send, Or Modern Meltdown" has been hosted at the Huffington Post, Elite Daily, and Entertainment Online, reaching almost 60,000 views.
