Penn State Adds Appalachian State to 2018 Schedule

Penn State announced the addition of another cupcake to a future schedule today, as Appalachian State will come to Beaver Stadium to open the 2018 season on Sept. 1, 2018. Penn State’s schedules from 2015-18 are now complete.

The Nittany Lions and Mountaineers have never met before. Appalachian State was added to the FBS this season after being an FCS powerhouse for years, winning three championships from 2005-07. However, Appalachian State is best known for pulling off one of the most shocking college football upsets ever when it beat No. 5 Michigan to open the 2007 season in the Big House.

Penn State’s three non-conference games for 2018 are versus the Mountaineers, at Pitt, and versus Kent State (the Big Ten will switch to a nine-game schedule in 2016). It’ll play a tough Big Ten home slate, though, facing off against Maryland, Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Wisconsin.

Here are all of Penn State’s future schedules. Penn State’s most difficult non-conference opponent between now and 2018 is Pitt, with which it has a series against from 2016-19.
