Student Dance Teams to Perform Holiday Showcase

Penn State’s Ballet Club, Volé, will host a holiday dance showcase called “‘Tis the Season” tonight at 7:30 p.m.

The showcase will feature eight different student dance organizations: Volé, Orchesis, PSDA, Urban Dance Troupe, Ambitions, Ram Squad, Whiplash, and Tapestry. “‘Tis the Season” will be free to attend in Schwab Auditorium, and it will offer a little bit of everything for the audience, including classical ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, breakdancing, and tap dancing.

“All of the organizations, at the end of the day, have the same intentions and goals: to express an art we love, and to share that with the university,” said Volé president Cynthia Sherry. “We wanted to show this diversity in a non-competitive way, and there is nothing more free and friendly than the holidays.”

The idea for the show was born in September, when Volé’s executive board asked clubs at the Penn State Dance Involvement Fair if they’d be interested in making collaborations and connections more common and prevalent within the Penn State dance community.

“We want to send everyone home with a warm hearts, excited for the holidays,” Sherry said. “Every organization chose holiday or seasonal songs, and they will all be tied together to make one big story — which is a surprise of course!”

To find out the big surprise, get to Schwab by 7:30 p.m. tonight, and get into the holiday spirit.
