Overheard on Twitter: James Franklin Doesn’t Settle For B’s

We’ve seen this before. Always vigilant on social media, James Franklin responded to freshman offensive lineman Chance Sorrell’s tweet back in September about only leaving himself 34 minutes to shower and get ready for class, telling the young fella’ he better be on time.

Today, sophomore cornerback Bryant Harper took to Twitter to brag about how he earned a B on his first anatomy exam without studying, a feat most college students would be proud of. As you can imagine, as the head coach of a program that just received a national award for its high graduation success rate and finished the 2014 season with a program-record 57 players with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.0, Franklin holds his team to a higher standard.

Damn. That’s Herb Hand-levels of told, right there.

Harper explained in a later tweet that he forgot when his exam was and called it “a minor difficulty” in his scheduling, but still faced the wrath of Coach Franklin nonetheless. I guess this is a lesson to all Nittany Lions that if you tweet something, Franklin — *cue best Liam Neeson voice* — will look for it, he will find it, and he will put you on blast.

Get Out There And Meet People: CJ Doon’s Senior Column

Whether it’s natural curiosity or fear of the spotlight, I’m not sure, but I’ve always been more comfortable asking questions rather than answering them. Interviewing interesting people — friends, family, or strangers — is an enjoyable activity that I hope to turn into a living. At Penn State, I was afforded the opportunity to follow that passion — and then some.
