New Craft Beer Bar to Open Downtown

By my count, there are 32 establishments within walking distance of (or on) campus that serve alcohol. The downtown State College bar scene will welcome its 33rd member next week with the opening of Liberty Craft House, a new craft beer bar operated by Dante’s Restaurants Inc.

The new drinking hole will open at the former location of The Attic at 346 East College Ave. adjacent to Inferno. The former used clothing shop has undergone renovations since the fall and is scheduled to open to the public next Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. according to an information sheet distributed to Dante’s employees and obtained by Onward State. A private employee launch reception is set for this Sunday.

Contractors could be seen putting some finishing touches on the awning Wednesday afternoon while most of the new bar is shielded from view. Liberty will be just one more feather in the cap of Dante’s great craft beer offerings — which includes extensive selections at the Deli, Z-Bar, and the Hop Shop — perhaps rivaled only by Zeno’s in State College.

Specific details on the menu are not yet known. Dante’s has not responded to a request for comment.

Hometown Brewery Releases Beer Honoring Evan Pugh

Penn State’s first president Evan Pugh was born in 1828 at Jordan Bank Farm, three miles south of the city center of Oxford, Pennsylvania, an hour west of Philadelphia in Chester County. One-hundred eighty-nine years later, an Oxford brewery is honoring one of the preeminent champions of “liberal and practical” higher education in the form of a delicious Porter.
