Pistol Peg Performs at THON

Pistol Peg graced the THON stage Saturday afternoon and brought with it some country songs to change the pace in the BJC.

The band played songs by a variety of country artists including Lady Antebellum, John Michael Montgomery, and Miranda Lambert. It seemed like the audience enjoyed the performance, and the Greek letters were really swaying in the stands. The crowd became most engaged when the band played Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” (what defines country music these days, I’m not so sure) and Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel,” and asked everyone to sing along.

Brother and sister duo Jill and Mark Simanski provide the lead vocals for Pistol Peg, while Mark plays acoustic guitar for most of the songs. Joe Scott and Brandon Kane both provide some supporting vocals for the Altoona-based band and played the electric guitar. In addition, Justin Brown played the bass guitar and Steve Holtz joined in on the drums.

There were some awkward pauses from song to song, but overall, the band did a good job of playing a mixture of country songs, and the lead singer interacted well with the crowd in front of the stage. Pistol Peg kept the momentum going here in the BJC!
