Devon And Leah Still To Receive The Jimmy V Award At The 2015 ESPYS

We all know by now about Devon Still’s beautiful, courageous daughter Leah. Her story ignites hope and inspires countless individuals to never give up. Sound familiar? The late Jim Valvano had that same perseverance and made sure to remind people of these values much in the same way Leah and her father continue to.

As a result of their inspiration and likeness to the basketball player, coach, and namesake of the V Foundation, the Stills were selected as the 2015 recipients of the Jimmy V Perseverance Award, an honor annually given to a member of the sports community who has overcome substantial obstacles through perseverance and determination. The Jimmy V Award will be presented to the Stills on July 15 at ESPN’s annual award ceremony “The ESPYS.”

This announcement comes three days after Devon’s Instagram broke the news that Leah faced complications with a stem cell transplant. Devon posted on all platforms of social media asking for support and prayers from fans. Doctors caught the problem early and hopefully should be able to negate the issue, but this serves as a reminder of the the constant battle Leah and her family have to go through. The Still’s unfathomable strength make the family a logical and worthy candidate to be graced with an award previously presented to inspirational sports greats including Stuart Scott, Kay Yow, and Eric LaGrand.

Even one year after Leah’s initial neuroblastoma diagnosis, she’s still fighting strong. We should look to her as a role model, and keep her in our thoughts as she continues the long journey to recovery.
