Nittany Lion Declared The Fastest College Mascot

Have you ever wondered what the fastest college mascot is? Probably not, but it turns out it’s the symbol of our best. In honor of National Running Day, 247Sports ranked every Power Five-conference mascot in terms of speed. In the “Speedy Predator” division, the Penn State Nittany Lion was named number one.

To rank the mascots, the writers at 247Sports took a school’s nickname, decided whether or not a land speed could be determined, and then simply Googled “How fast can a ______ run.” According to the all-knowing search engine, a Nittany Lion could reach speeds of 50 miles per hour, which is 10 miles per hour faster than the second-place LSU Tigers.
