Raquel Rodriguez Named To Hermann Trophy Watch List

Everyone’s favorite member of the Costa Rican National Team, Raquel Rodriguez, was named to the watch list for college soccer’s most prestigious award, the Hermann Trophy.

The Nittany Lion midfielder earned Big Ten Midfielder of the Year honors last season, was on two voting bodies’ postseason First Teams, and garnered another Second Team honor as well. Rodriguez finished last season in third place on her team in both goals and points. Arguably the biggest moment in her soccer career came this summer, however, when she scored her country’s first-ever World Cup goal. The goal was also the first by a Nittany Lion in the tournament’s history.

Rodriguez is one of four Big Ten players on the Hermann Trophy watch list. 28 players are on the list, and Rodriguez will try to become the second Nittany Lion to win college soccer’s Heisman after Christie Welsh in 2001.
