LB Daiquan Kelly Dismissed From The Program

Penn State football announced freshman linebacker Daiquan Kelly was dismissed from the program in a press release Saturday morning, citing a violation of team rules.

Kelly, a four-star recruit from Newark New Jersey, committed to play with the Nittany Lions in September. He played wide receiver at Union City High School, but was recruited as a linebacker. He had previously committed to Syracuse before flipping his decision after the sanctions were lifted.

The press release from Penn State athletics was only 20 words and gave no further details on Kelly’s dismissal.

Update: Kelly released a statement on his personal Twitter.

Update: Kelly is signing to play with the University of Massachusetts, according to his high school coach, Wil Valdez, and NJ.com.

“He’s going to sign with UMass,” Valdez said. “He’s going to leave on Saturday morning to go over there and I think it’s a great spot for him. He’ll go there, redshirt and then have the opportunity to start as a redshirt freshman.”
