Overheard On Twitter: Penn State Twitter Responds To The Firing Of Tim Beckman
We’re all familiar with Tim Beckman, correct? Tim Beckman, Head Coach of Illinois. Tim Beckman, the same head coach who visited Penn State and attempted to poach players after the fallout of the Sandusky scandal. He’s the same Tim Beckman that Michael Mauti so eloquently told to “fuck off” after he attempted to recruit him.
Well karma’s a bitch, isn’t it Tim?
Tim Beckman was fired on Friday as a result of an external review conducted by the school after allegations influencing medical decisions and pressuring players to play hurt. Beckman got what was coming to him, and Penn State Twitter promptly responded how it always does in these situations: by mocking Beckman and cracking jokes.
Can the next Hard Knocks just be an hour of Bill O’Brien talking about Tim Beckman?

Memorable OB quote on Beckman: “I can’t believe I had to shake hands with that (guy).”

Hey someone who isn’t blocked by Beckman let him know I’m smiling a lot because of him — Bill (@bflip33) August 28, 2015
Maybe if Tim Beckman hangs out in the parking lot at another school, a real coach will come and try to poach him for their staff.

Yes, that last tweet is from a former Illinois defensive tackle who played under Beckman.
To make matters worse for the Illini football program, all of this is going down just a week before the season begins! It just goes to show that if you treat others (for example, your players) how you would like to be treated (or with basic regard for player safety and well-being) you win football games and people respect you! But if you don’t, your world comes crashing down around you, and karma bites you in the ass.
I suppose if Mike Leach and Tommy Tuberville can find other jobs, Beckman should be able to land somewhere else as well — but nothing’s ever guaranteed! Good luck trying to convince another school to hire you, Tim, and good luck rebuilding that shattered reputation. I’m sure Mike Rice is there for moral support.
