Greetings From State College: Penn State Postcards
by: Gabriela Stevenson and Carolyn Popescu
With midterm season in full swing, many of us are starting to realize that the fall semester is already half way over. It’s so easy to fall into a monotonous routine when you feel so at home at Penn State. But have you ever tried to look at campus from a different perspective?
Well picture this: a luxury resort, a wild safari, an awesome bus tour…with a little imagination and an open mind, anything is possible. That’s why we set out to find the hidden gems of Penn State’s inner utopia. Check out our Stately postcards and discover the paradise you never knew existed at Penn State.
The Place: East Halls
The Message: “Dear Mom and Dad, Penn State is AMAZING! My room is small but quaint, and there are so many things to do. Bus tours leave from my doorstep, the dining hall is right next door, and everyone’s always up for a game of beach volleyball. Having a great time, thinking of you! Xoxo, Gabriela”
The Place: The Patterson Art Building
The Message: “Dear Grandma, who needs the The Louvre or The Museum of Modern Art? Not me. I have my own slice of artistic heaven here in State College. You’d really love it here! All my love, Carolyn”
The Place: Old Main
The Message: “Dear Mom, this place sure has a vast history. I stumbled upon this magnificent building the other day while I was out exploring. The tour guides say it just houses offices now, but I think it once belonged to royalty. More postcards on the way! Love, Gabriela”
The Place: The HUB Aquarium
The Message: “Mom, I know everyone raves about the clear blue oceans of Bora Bora, but look at THIS! Not only is the water as blue as sapphire, but the fish are exotic and mesmerizing. I’m so happy to be here. Best, Carolyn”
The Place: Beaver Stadium
The Message: “Dad! We went on a safari today and stumbled upon a lion’s den. It was so cool to see the lions up close — they seem to be a very tightly knit pride, and when they roared it almost made my eardrums burst! Looking forward to many more awesome adventures here. Sincerely, Gabriela”
The Place: The Willard Building
The Message: “Hey Mom! We went for out for a day on the town today. You wouldn’t believe the characters I see here! I would never meet people like this at home. One of the street performers even preaches and sings to those who pass by. You never know what to expect here. Can’t wait to hear back from you! Xoxo, Carolyn”
