Carl Nassib Named CBS Sports Defensive Player Of The Year

Even after his college football career came to an end, the awards keep flowing in for Carl Nassib, who was named the CBS Sports Defensive Player of the Year.

The standout defensive end came out of nowhere to become a dominant force for the Nittany Lions this season. Nassib finished the year with 46 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, an interception, and led the nation in sacks and forced fumbles with 15.5 and six, respectively. The star senior recorded at least one sack in every game he played this season, and considering the teams he faced down the stretch, that statistic glimmers.

His most recent distinction is just another honor in a long list of awards that Nassib’s compiled this year. Nassib was awarded the Lombardi Award, Hendricks Award, Lott Impact Trophy, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and numerous First Team All-American nods.

Nassib finished alongside Stanford running back and Heisman Trophy finalist Christian McCaffrey, who was named CBS Sports’ Offensive Player of the Year, and UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen, who earned Freshman Player of the Year honors.

For a season that seemed like the plot of a movie — a former walk-on who becomes the most dominant player in the country — Carl Nassib certainly made his mark at Penn State. Nassib will now try his luck in NFL Draft and bring his dominating style to the professional level with the hopes of furthering his legacy.
