The Haymarket, Va., native earned an offer in June and started trending to the Nittany Lions following a successful Lasch Bash visit a few weeks ago. Franklin becomes the fifth recruit to commit to Penn State following the annual barbecue, following in the footsteps of Brelin Faison-Walden, Jonathan Sutherland, Derrek Pitts, and Cameron-Sullivan Brown.
Franklin, who checks in at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, is considered the nation’s 61st-overall athlete and the 25th-ranked prospect from Virginia this cycle, according to the 247Sports Composite. Defensive coordinator Brent Pry sees Franklin as an outside linebacker in Penn State’s 4-3 scheme. Franklin joins Faison-Walden and long-time verbal Dylan Rivers as the future of Linebacker U. Franklin has the size and speed to grow into a terrifying presence at the field linebacker spot.
With Franklin in the fold, the Nittany Lions currently hold 13 commitments in their Class of 2017, which enjoyed a boost into the Top 25 of the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings following the recent surge of good news on the trail.
