Hitch A Ride Home With Fellow Nittany Lions Through Penn State Zimride

If you don’t have a car here in State College and Megabus rides give you claustrophobia, stress no more. Penn State is now offering a rideshare program through Enterprise called Penn State Zimride. The program is Penn State’s private ride-matching network that matches up students, faculty members, and staff members who are traveling in the same direction on any given day.

Much like any other ridesharing website, Zimride offers benefits for both drivers and passengers. If you don’t have a car then you can find a ride. If you do have a car, then you can take on passengers to split the cost of the trip and make it a little easier to pay for gas. The only requirement there is to make an account is a Penn State WebAccess ID. From there, you can customize your settings and choose the campus that you attend.

The website also advertises sharing rides to prominent away football games, such as the Pitt Game on September 10. In the event that you can’t find a ride to share, Zimride also allows you to reserve one of the Enterprise CarShare cars located on the Penn State campus, post your ride on Zimride, then share the costs with other people.

To make you feel more warm and fuzzy inside, Zimride also lets you know how much pollution is avoided by sharing a ride with others.

The rideshare program was proposed last spring and so far seems to work without any glitches, surprisingly.
