Former Penn State Kicker Sam Ficken Earns Saints Minicamp Invite

Former Penn State kicker Sam Ficken will be spending May 12-14 at the New Orleans Saints’ minicamp as he works to break through into the NFL, according to Lions247 reporter Sean Fitz.

Ficken spent the last NFL preseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars, getting cut just before the start of the season. The Penn State fan favorite has also taken part in two minicamps with the Kansas City Chiefs, but is yet to find permanent home beyond the collegiate level.

Ficken is remembered for game-winning field goals against Wisconsin and UCF, ushering in the James Franklin era with an exciting win overseas. The beloved Penn State kicker also came through in the clutch as the Nittany Lions took down Boston College in the 2014 Pinstripe Bowl.

The Saints have one kicker already on their roster – Will Lutz – who made 28 of his 34 field goal attempts last season. Nate Stupar is the only other Penn State alum on the Saints roster currently.
