Kansas City Royals Select RHP Sal Biasi No. 330 Overall

The Kansas City Royals selected Penn State right-handed pitcher Sal Biasi in the 11th round (No. 330 overall) of the 2017 MLB Draft Wednesday.

Biasi, a 6-foot, 190-pound senior out of Hazleton Township, Pa., was far and away Penn State’s most consistent starter on the mound this past season. He finished with a 5-5 record in 14 appearances on his way to a team-best 3.48 ERA.

He follows in the footsteps of former Nittany Lions Jim Haley and Jack Anderson, who were drafted last June by the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners in the 19th and 23rd rounds, respectively. Fresh off his fourth season as head coach, Rob Cooper’s steady rebuild of Penn State’s roster has already started to translate to the next level. Prior to Haley and Anderson’s selections, Penn State didn’t have a player taken since 2012.

Biasi’s younger brother, Dante, is a rising junior for the Nittany Lions. He turned down a 22nd round selection by the Chicago Cubs in last year’s draft and is perhaps Penn State’s top prospect heading into next season.
