DOTD: Penn State Volleyball Fanatic Whitney Houston?

Penn State women’s volleyball is back in the big time once again as it booked its ticket to the Final Four for the first time since 2014.

Through seven national titles, 25 conference championships, and 13 trips to the Final Four, the Nittany Lions have grown a fan base like no other in the sport. But long before it became the record holder for NCAA volleyball championships, the team appeared to have another adoring fan — Whitney Houston.

In the 2017 documentary, Whitney: Can I Be Me, the late star was seen wearing a Penn State volleyball t-shirt. The film shows archived footage from behind the scenes of her “My Love Is Your Love” tour, which she brought to the Bryce Jordan Center in 1999 (presumably the stop where she would’ve gotten the shirt).

While the team had been to the Final Four on four occasions and made it to the title game three times prior to this, the Nittany Lions wouldn’t become national champions until later that year after the tour. Coincidence?

We’ll always love you, Penn State, as will Whitney Houston.

Maybe he finally opened that sports bar named after one of his photos, the Blurry Zamboni. Or he might just be eating chicken tenders and couch surfing. Anything’s possible.
