Penn State Women’s Lacrosse Crushes Albany 17-7

A dominant first half led Penn State women’s lacrosse past Albany 17-7 Sunday afternoon in New York.

Maria Auth’s five-point game helped the Nittany Lions improve to 4-3, while the Great Danes remained winless on the season.

How It Happened

Missy Doherty’s squad put on an offensive clinic in the first 30 minutes at John Fallon Field, establishing a 13-3 lead heading into the intermission. The Nittany Lions scored in bursts, with a six-goal run in the first half and a seven-goal barrage sandwiched around halftime.

Penn State outshot Albany 33-15 and secured the majority of Sunday’s draw controls, 17-8. Senior captain Katie O’Donnell finished with a hat trick for the Nittany Lions, while Madison Carter, Sophia Triandafils, and Quinn Nicolai added two goals apiece. Maggie Gallagher, Shelby Wells, Kristin Roberto, and Delaney Muldoon rounded out the scoring with a goal each.

Lucy Lowe and Madison Cunningham split the time in goal evenly, with Lowe picking up the win thanks to three saves in the first half. Cunningham replaced her after the break and tallied a save despite not seeing much action. Penn State’s young defense did an excellent job of taking the pressure off its goalies.
